AFWA logoDid you know that Asthma is one of the greatest causes of hospital admission in children under 12 years and is responsible for over 1,000,000 days of school absenteeism nationally every year?

Did you know that 1 person in Australia dies every day from an asthma attack?

Did you know that every week throughout Australia more then 2,000 people visit a hospital emergency department with asthma and almost 80% of them are admitted to hospital?

If you didn’t know these statistics and you didn’t know the impact asthma has on our community then you probably don’t know about the importance of fundraising for the Asthma Foundation of WA’s HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma. All funds raised go directly towards making a difference to people living with asthma.

We are asking everyone to raise $100 for the asthma cause. Its so simple just click here and you will be on your way to setting up your own individual online fundraising page.

VOLUNTEERSVolunteers

This event is a great day but we wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of hundreds of volunteers. We need 300 volunteer team members to make this event possible. The positions available include:

  • Parking marshals
  • Venue Marshals
  • Course Marshals
  • Village Marshalls
  • Rehydration Station Marshals
  • Train Station Marshals

Volunteers will also be placed at the start and finish sites and also at the various stations along the way. All volunteers will need to attend a pre-event briefing session.

We greatly value the support of our volunteers and make every attempt to ensure you have a fantastic time at our events. Volunteers receive refreshments and event information, the support of Asthma Foundation and key volunteer staff and of course an exciting and satisfying experience.

If you are interested or know of anyone who is interested in becoming a member of our Volunteer team please visit www.freewaybikehike.com.au or contact the volunteer recruitment team on 08 9289 3656 or via email at bikehikevolunteers@asthmawa.org.au

SAFETY - EDDY SAYS...

Eddy HollandsFormer professional road cyclist Eddy Hollands offers some advice on riding safely in groups:

"Ride in a steady, straight line. This makes it easier for other bike riders who are trying to overtake you safely."

"Stop if you see an accident. Check to see if everyone is ok. Apply first aid if you know how. Clear the road of debris and bikes."

To find out more about what you can do to practise safe group riding, click here to download your copy of 'Safe Riding in Groups'.
